At the end at what has been another great year for the Supporters’ Association, it gives me pleasure to review our activities with a certain amount of pride, for compared with many other clubs supporters sections, I am confident that ours is one of the most pro-active and thriving.
When I look at the state of some clubs in our own league, I reflect upon the perilous financial state that they are in compared with the “steady ship” which we proudly support.
The history of our club stems from the demise of the organisation on three significant occasions within the last century. We too can say to the likes of Portsmouth and Coventry fans that we have “been there”. We share their supporters’ pain and anguish.
I will never forget that it was the supporters of football in Stevenage that resurrected our club and it is through the good governance of our present chairman, Phil Wallace, that we can all now share in the glory of League football.
When you look at ex-League clubs local to us – like Luton and Cambridge Utd – it is certainly a time to savour. Indulge it.
As Christmas is a time for reflection, it is opportune to remember those who are no longer with us. We remember Brian Hierons and Mitchell Cole, to name but two. Our thoughts are with their families at this time.
So, in conclusion, I would just like to say that on behalf of all of the Committee, who give freely of their time and effort for the club and you the supporters, I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
