Membership Update

In anticipation of an increase in membership, the SA set an initial target of 600 members for this season compared with an actual figure for 2009/10 of 515. This figure was passed during August, when 15 year old Cameron McCoy from Stevenage became our 600th member. To mark this milestone, he received a certificate from his favourite player, Ashley Bayes at the Crewe game.

On becoming the 600th member, Cameron had this to say: “I am proud to be a member of the Stevenage Supporters Association. I love going to the home and away games, the pre-match anxiety, the pre-game predictions and getting into the stadium early to watch the teams warm up. During the game, the match, the players, the fans just makes the atmosphere immense. I know of no other fans, no other team better than Stevenage Football Club“.

We currently have 640 members, which includes an encouraging 210 new members for this season. This is excellent, although disappointingly 85 members from last season have so far failed to renew.

We’ve seen increases in most categories, although Junior membership is lower than anticipated. We have now set a revised target of 650 members and hope to have a special draw when this figure has been achieved.

Membership via the web-site has proved quite popular, and so far 26 members have joined us electronically. The sale of pin badges via the website has also been a great success, and to date, we’ve sold a total of 75 badges.

A record 78% of our members have provided us with email addresses this season, enabling us to communicate more effectively.

Over 20 Junior members are recording their attendance at home games, and an updated Attendance Table can be found below, and on the SA web-site, under Junior Boro. The SA mail out around 100 birthday cards each month to Junior and baby Boro members.

Baby Boro continues to prove very popular, and at the end of August we had 2,195 Baby Boro members.

Programmes & Pin Badges

The SA has a small stock of old programmes, which we sell from the SA Information Point between the North and East Terraces, with any monies raised going into SA funds. If any member has any old programmes that they no longer want, please consider donating them to the SA. They can be left with Geoff Gibbs the SA Secretary at the SA hut, which is open both before and after games. We also have available a supply of old SA pin badges for sale, and of course the free commemorative badge for SA members.

Geoff has just a single programme for sale to anyone who couldn’t purchase their own copy of Boro’s first home game in the Football League (Macclesfield) and also one programme re the Carling Cup match the following Tuesday against Portsmouth. These are available to the first supporter who makes a reasonable offer to Geoff – please discuss this with him at the SA Hut before the Torquay or Wycombe games.

Club Merchandise

Although the SA does not benefit from the sale of Club merchandise, small items are available for sale from the SA hut before most games. If you are an SA member then you will be entitled to a discount on most items. If you are unable to get to the Club shop on match days for your Boro memento then consider popping over to the SA Hut and see what is available.

Quiz Night Report

On Saturday 4th September twelve teams packed into the Crooked Billet for the Supporters’ Association music quiz night.

Boro keeper Chris Day took the mic again to test the musical knowledge of the Boro fans and the winners with 71 of a possible 106 points were Paul Lyme’s team “Are you Boro in disguise?”

With cries of “FIX” ringing around the pub  we collected our winnings and trophy!

“Roebuck” finished in last place and picked up their £10 entrance money back as their commiseration prize.

Fun was had by all on a very successful evening with the quiz and raffle money adding up to over £130 for the SA over the course of the night.

I’d like to extend many thanks to everyone who took part in the quiz and to Chris Day for running the quiz again.

Pictures and full results of the quiz will be up on the website as soon as possible.

Harlow Dogs

I should have an announcement within the next week about the planned race night at Harlow Dog track, so please keep your eyes on your inbox for more info.

If there are any other events you’d like to see happen or if you have any feedback from the quiz night, please contact me at paul@sfcsa.co.uk

Thanks,
Paul Lyme
