Paul Evans is a writer, poet and most of all, a devoted Stevenage fan. He has been for many years, since he first visited Broadhall Way back in our Diadora league days.

He has been through the highs of seeing us promoted to the Football League, lifting the FA Trophy and our epic FA Cup battles with the likes of Leyton Orient, Birmingham, Swindon and Newcastle and also suffered the lows of seeing us denied promotion in 1996, just missing out on the Football League at Stoke, as well as the Trophy final defeats to Yeovil and Barrow.

Paul is a member of a local creative writing group held at The Wellbeing Centre in Stevenage, and through this, was introduced to the Stevenage Survivors Poetry group which he has been a member of for approximately 18 months.

Upon gaining promotion to the Football League, Paul wrote a poem to commemorate the achievement and recited it to great acclaim at the recent SA AGM.

We thought it only fair that his work was made available to a wider audience and as such, Paul’s poem, ‘Success’, is published below.
